THE STORY: Since 1965, Dalton Carpets has been one of the largest retail floor covering firms in the metro Atlanta area. The company has three locations – Norcross, Roswell and Acworth. Our goal is to provide quality flooring products, installations and full-service warranties to satisfy every customer's particular needs.

How I did it: Having a burning desire to own my own business, and with the opportunity, I was able to prepare a viable business plan to purchase this business from the original owner. Hard work and the right personnel have made it succeed.

My best advice: Develop a steady persistence in a course of action, have a strong work ethic and display a great attitude in any endeavor that you may undertake. Be a visionary and try to anticipate solutions to problems before they occur.

My idea of fun: I serve, with pleasure, as Chairman of a large historical association. I enjoy studying and researching history, delight in running my business and enjoy traveling the world with my wife. We also like to visit the North Carolina mountains.

What I dream of: My wife and I have a realistic goal of traveling to all seven continents – visiting many foreign countries. We want to see the New Seven Wonders of the World. We also wish to watch our children and grandchildren experience success.

What's next for me: I'm in the process of expanding and will be developing an additional location in North Georgia. This will be a definite challenge in today's economic environment, but it will afford us the opportunity to increase our market share.
